Squaw Valley, California: Mikaela Shiffrin won the Giant Slalom ski race with two outstanding runs, her ninth win of the season. Shiffrin can wrap-up the Overall Ski title with a win at the finals at Aspen.
Lindsey Vonn skied in the Downhill at Aspen and crashed. She had hoped to finish the ski season strong, but a bug she contracted racing in Korea left her weak. After the race in Aspen she complained that she was tired. She is now concentrating on the Olympics in 2018.
CAA Ski Championship
University of Colorado freshmen David Ketterer won both the Giant Slalom and the Slalom. University of Denver took the lead in the overall team lead with one more day of competition to go.On the final day Utah won the championship, University of Colorado was second, and Denver University third.
Air Force Academy Part 2
Continuing last week's discussion about the Air Force Academy, this week some academy history, after September 1947, when the Air Force was established as a separate service.The United States Air Force Academy was established April 1, 1954, the culmination of an idea that had been years in the making.
The Air Force appointed a board to study the existing military academies and to study the options for an Air Force Academy. Their conclusions were strongly put: the Air Force needed its own school, The commission recommended Colorado Springs as its first choice after considering hundreds of sites all over the country,
At a temporary site, Lowry Air Force Base, in Denver the first class of 306 men was sworn in while the permanent campus was being built in Colorado Springs.The Cadet Wing is now limited to 4,000 men and woman. Women entered the Air Force Academy for the first time 1976. The first class including women graduated in 1980.
