Sage Grouse Habitat
After weeks of our thoughts about Sage Grouse, readers may be getting tired of what My Thoughts has to say about the subject. Below are some excerpts of an editorial in The Denver Post 8/25/2017.
"US Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke undid five years of hard work and collaboration when he changed existing habitat protection rules for the Greater Sage Grouse to favor of captive breeding and population targets approach. Zinke should know that captive breeding of endangered and threatened species misses the point. If a population of birds has nowhere to live, reed and flourish, hitting a population number through captive breeding is futile and unsustainable."
The populations of the bird have struggled, dropping from millions to somewhere between 200,000 and 500,000. Let's not let the population follow the route of the black-footed ferret where captive breeding is struggling to reacquaint our prairies with a once-thought-extinct weasel..."
"The Trump administration's new rule will make it easier for economic development activities of these lands, like running cattle, drilling for oil and gas, and mining for coal. As The Denver Post's Bruce Finley reported this month, the habitat protection approach would have benefited another 300 species."
This what My Thoughts has been saying .for weeks and months.

Colorado State University
Yesterday (Saturday 8-26-2017) CSU played Oregon State to open Colorado State's brand new football stadium. The stadium is named for Sonny Lubick the football coach who in the past raised the football program from the doldrums to the level of mediocrity it now enjoys.
The new stadium is hoped to raise the economy of Fort Collins, the home of CSU. Building the stadium was a contentious issue. Stadium opponents say the stadium is pretty and has left them with a pretty large debt.
In 47% of the states the highest paid state employee is a football coach.
