Ski Conditions
North and Central Mountains offer the best snow/skiing at this time, but that can change with one storm.
Most ski areas are now open but with limited number of trails and lifts. The season got off to a slow start because of usually dry (no natural snow) November and December weather. Since the first calendar day of winter, mountain snow storm have increased to normal levels. Below are some examples, plus overnight snow added today.
Steamboat, 7 inches new packed powder (getting more snow today) on base of 56 inches.34 of 165 trails open. 9 of 18 lifts operating.
Cooper, 1 inch new powder machine groomed, 100% open 39 of 39 trails and 4 of 4 lifts operating.5-18 base. Just outside of Leadville and named for actor Gary Cooper who skied there and made it an early popular hill.
Copper Mountain, 1 inch new packed powder, 27% open 38 of 143 trails open. 13 of 23 lifts operating.
Loveland, 23 inch base, 7 of 10 lifts running, 8:30 to 4 PM
Ski Granby Ranch, 10 to 18 base, 3-5 lifts in the eye of Tuesday night storm.
Arapahoe Basin, 4 inches new powder, 27 inch base, 18 of 132 trails 5 of 9 lift, 14% of 250 acres oppen.

Women's Ski Racing
Michaela Shiffern won the Slalom yesterday, December 28, to move her up to number 7 in the list skiers with total career wins. She only 22 and destined to rise even higher on the list.of wins.
On December 29, she placed third inth GS. That didn't affect the winner.'s list but it did provide another trip to the podium. She was '08 second behind the first place winner and .04 behind second place.
In an interview with Denver Post writer John Meyer, she said,I’m really happy with my performance over the two days, but it always stings a little bit when you think, ‘Third place, eight hundredths from the lead, or four hundredths from second place,’ it’s really close,” Shiffrin told reporters in the finish area. “But it means it’s a good competition with the women. That’s really exciting for us, it’s exciting for the fans and I definitely was attacking on the second run.”
