Wolves in the Election
In the Colorado 2020 Election voters will decide whether or not to allow wolves to be re-introduced in Colorado
public land. The election issue is unusual in that wildlife management decisions are normally made by experienced and trained managers in the Wildlife  Department. This time it was felt that  Colorado is too densely populated to allow vicious predictors so close to civilization.  Ranchers feared for the safety of their livestock. Finally it was decided to let the people decide if the  rewards were worth the risks of allowing wolves to be imported. It should be noted that a few wolves have strayed on their own into Colorado from Wyoming out of ignorance of the state lines and boundaries.

Wyoming introduced 14 wolves into Yellowstone National Park in 1995. Their opinions of the experiment follows. It started with wolves killing deer and elk. That resulted in reductions of herds and deer and elk stayed away from places where they were easy prey. Because of reduced size of the deer and elk herds, the vegetation made a comeback. With more trees and bushes, berries and bugs were attracted to areas that had been overgrazed.

With the increase of berries and bugs the birds and ducks returned to their previous numbers. The same for the beavers moving in because they were attracted by spouting trees and bushes. The beaver dams formed ponds that provided habitat for muskrats, otters, and reptiles. And so it went, not in days and weeks, but eventually in a short period of months and years the overall Yellowstone environment changed for the better. 

This is just one argument to a very complex issue. Many things can be said for and against.
