The World Cup is a very complicated tournament - six games, seven if you make it to the final - and maybe if you lose one game you're out, even if you're the best.

World Cup
The World Cup fo.tball (soccer) tournament final was Sunday afternoon in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Germany beat Argentina in the second 15 minute overtiime by a score one goal to nil. It was a shame that either team had to lose, but Germany was the better team.
I did not care who did win. After all, the U.S. had been eliminated in the "knockout round" by Belgium. I don't want to say I told you so, but... I did predict Germany's championship win while my friend Daniel Cooke a soccer player at Littleton High School was predicting that Netherlands would win. I told you so.
My First Novel
About 30 years ago, I wrote a novel for middle schoolers about a boy who received a hairline fracture of the tibula playing football. He turned to soccer because it is played with the feet but hands and arms are not involved. The story explains the rules of soccer through the point of view of the boy.learning to play the game. Socceer on Saturday was a good story for kids to learn about a new (new to the U.S.) game.
But alas, I was ahead of my time. Youth soccer had barely caught on. There were no soccer moms and every four-year old boy and girl was not given a soccer uniform and a ball. The writing was not very good, but the content was really what turned off the editors. One kind editor took the time to write and say if I wanted to write about sports, I should write a biography about a famous athlete.
Writers, you don't want to copy what everyone else is doing (Vampires, Zombies), but on the other hand, you don't want to get too far ahead of the curve.
My Second First Novel
There will be an anouncement coming soon about a book signing in November in an Asian jewelry store featuring Murder in the Rockies.
