Update
Colorado Mountains are experiencing record low snowpack amounts. An unusually warm and dry fall and early winter have left ski areas scratching their heads and making snow with snow machines.
Quotes
Good resolutions are simply checks that men draw on a bank where they have no account.”
— Oscar Wilde,
An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.”
— Bill Vaughn,
Many years ago I resolved never to bother with New Year’s resolutions, and I’ve stuck with it ever since.”

Winds
On a day when winds were predicted for the Denver area, it was the high country that took the brunt of the winds. Boulder and Larimer counties were designated as high wind areas for most of the day. The highest reading was at a point near Gold Hill, close to the city of Boulder. It was 98 mph!
Eldora Ski resort, also in the mountains above Boulder, put a "wind hold" on skiing before deciding to shut down entirely for the day. Denver International Airport felt lucky to have experienced only 39 mph winds. Bursts on some mountain highways reached up to 60 mph causing Colorado Department of Transportation to prohibit high profile vehicles in places.
Excerpt from Two Miles High and Six Feet Under
Christmas and Coyle climbed back up into their seats in the wagon and continued their journey up the bumpy road. The sun went behind a cloud and a sudden breeze came up.
“Say, is it always this cold up here,” Coyle said, putting on his hat, and turning up his fur collar.
“Only in the winter. Which is ten months out of the year. The other two months are spring and fall. Cornucopia mine is right over there. Enjoy your stay in Leadville and don’t let McGowan pull the wool over your eyes,” Christmas said as he playfully reached over and pushed Coyle’s hat down over his face.
