When Denver Gave-up Hosting the Winter Olympics
Chicago spent nearly $50 million on a bid for the 2016 Summer Games, and even that eight-figure budget couldn't grab the rings. In May 1970 the International Olympic Committee awarded the 1976 Winter Olympics to Denver, which edged out Sion, Switzerland, Tampere, Finland, and Vancouver.
Denverites and their fellow Coloradoans, quickly realized that hosting the Olympics is a really, really pricey venture and that the cash to cover infrastructure costs would likely be coming from their taxes. The environmentalists worried about the impact of bringing in thousands of people. Opponents warned of stores, hotels, and restaurants all the way from Denver proposed Olympic venues that stretched from Denver to Steamboat Springs over 150 miles away.
A state legislator, 34year old Richard Lamm, campaigning for Governor walked.from Denver to the New Mexico state line to demonstrate his opposition to the coming events coming n three years. . Dismissed as interlopers and “street people,” the opponents of the Olympics. managed to put the question of whether to spend public money on the Winter Games on a statewide ballot, as well as a separate initiative in Denver itself. In 1972, Denver became the only city in history to be awarded the Olympics and then spurn them., The vote, 60-40 propelled Dick Lamm into the Governor’s Mansion for three terms. Denver was the only location to win hosting and then turn it down.

Trevor Siemian Wins Quarterback Competition
During summer training camp and the first two preseason practice games the most important position of the Denver Bronco football team, Quarterback, has been a contest between two players, Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch. Now the job is Siemian's for as long as he can keep it. Who has the stronger throwing arm and who is smarter in making quick decisions. My Thoughts says Siemian. The sports writers no longer have the competition to write about, but they will spend ink in analyzing who won and why.
